A story of passion

Once upon a time, there were team members who wanted to do more. They had the very best intentions, a passion for technology, unmatched dedication, and wanted to support local charitable organizations. But the team was beginning to feel that traditional donations weren’t enough.

Their desire: get involved personally. Their goal: help organizations contribute to the well-being of society. Their solution: facilitate virtual philanthropy!

The team members began to create a system that would give small organizations the same potential as large ones. They collaborated to create a fun, simple, and accessible tool, and in 2012, the first version of Followmybid was born.

Improvements to the platform have followed over the years to make it even more powerful and user-friendly. Now in its third version, the platform boasts a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the product and maximizing your experience. One of our ultimate goals: finding the balance between excellent customer service and user autonomy.

Opération Enfant Soleil online auction

Opération Enfant Soleil’s noble reputation already proceeds the organization. Since 1988, this non-profit organization has been working to develop the best pediatric services offered in Quebec.

The organization was accustomed to silent and traditional shout-out auctions, but the context of the health crisis pushed the team to find new ways of holding fundraisers. The autonomy offered by Followmybid was very important in organizing this auction under a tight deadline.

The event, nicknamed Encan Soleil, was held 100% online and offered physical items and tickets to virtual shows. The most popular items? Trips across Quebec.

Centraide of Greater Montreal employee Christmas market

Centraide’s mission is the fight against poverty and social exclusion. The organization works to build more inclusive communities where everyone enjoys the best possible living conditions.

This year, the Centraide of Greater Montreal team created an internal virtual Christmas market auction among employees, with proceeds going to benefit the community. Team members offered various items like vintage wood furniture or two nights at an ecological cottage. One person even volunteered to paint a room of your home!

The feedback was unanimous: everyone loved the platform’s simplicity and ease of use. And the organizers appreciated the final auction report that was generated automatically, allowing them to share the results easily with their administration.

A heartfelt gesture takes flight

The Fondation du Collège des Hauts Sommets assists young students by offering them supervision, support, financial aid, and more. Its key mission is to give back hope and help students gain self-esteem by developing their full potential.

Their benefit auction, named "Un élan du cœur qui donne des ailes", was held over Valentine’s Day and allowed team members to put old habits aside and reach new donors with the help of their partners. Various items at different price points were offered to reach a diverse clientele, thus allowing everyone to participate. Despite being a 100% virtual event, organizers created a feeling of proximity by delivering items themselves and thanking the generous partners differently than by a traditional letter of thanks.

Virtual auction to benefit the Centre de pédiatrie sociale de Lévis

The Centre de pédiatrie sociale de Lévis (CPSL) supports children from vulnerable backgrounds to promote their optimal development and overall health. To pursue its mission, the organization needs to be proactive in its search for funding. The CPSL had already held a few traditional paper-and-pencil auctions during fundraising evenings and several other varied fundraising activities.

The fundraising specialists quickly understood the added value of holding an online auction, especially since they could reach a much larger and more diversified public using this type of auction. Using the Followmybid platform allowed the CPSL to give better visibility to partners and offer them a brighter spotlight.

During fundraising events where traditional paper auctions are held, participants have to go and see if they have been outbid. The organization decided it needed to create more buzz and encourage bidding wars. During their Followmybid virtual auction, automated text messages combined with the possibility of seeing the names of people bidding on items helped create a spirit of friendly competition that was very beneficial for the organization!
